Weedon Island in St. Petersburg Florida provides an excellent kayak experience for avid paddlers or beginners.
A perfect day trip would be to rent kayaks at Weedon Island and then grab an early dinner at The Getaway (right around the corner). Get there early - they get busy!
Here are some highlights:
- Launch dock
- Watering hose to clean your kayak if you bring your own
- Calmer waters than the waves on the gulf side
- Mangroves are magical
- Crawling crabs and jumping fish
The waters of Tampa Bay are not as crystal clear as the gulf coast but you still have the opportunity to see Pelicans and other sea birds as well as manatees, dolphins and crabs!
