While Golden, Colorado might be well-known for being home to the largest single-site brewery in the world (Coors), my memories of this culturally attractive town will always be Clear Creek and Lookout Mountain!
Although a charming tourist town like many in Colorado, this one seems a bit quieter. We had no problem finding parking, grabbing a table at a restaurant, or stopping to take photos in the middle of the road. I think the low-key vibe made our visit that much more memorable.
My daughter and I happened upon a trail that took us up Lookout Mountain and another that took us along side Clear Creek. So of course we later grabbed the family to show them what we found.
You can hike, bike or drive up Lookout Mountain but please watch for wildlife! The peak is at 7,300 feet above sea level but when you reach it, you can see the Rocky Mountains and Denver's city skyline as long as it's a clear day.

Many avid climbers would disagree with me on this but personally, I prefer the views at the top of Lookout Mountain over the 14'ers and high peaks. The landscape of the Rockies is incredible at this height... and there is no shortage of oxygen.
After a nice vista view, head over to the shopping strip in downtown Golden and grab some tubes for a free ride down Clear Creek! Make sure to check the website and reports of water levels because if you go when there is a drought, you hit your fanny on the protruding rocks all the way down the creek. If you plan to go during Spring or when the water levels are super high, they sometimes close the creek and if not closed, you need to take extra precaution for safety and currents. People have had tragedies when not careful.

The water is crystal clear. Hence the name. The relaxing ride is absolutely enjoyable and worth a spot in your adventure planner!
Golden Colorado is a destination that I can't wait to return to! There's so much more to do here but these 2 top my list of favorites!
